Sweet Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) is an economically vital culinary and medicinal herb requiring high Daily Light Integral (DLI > 14 mol/m²/day) and warm root-zone temperatures (21-24°C). In closed hydroponic systems (NFT/DWC), basil is exceptionally susceptible to tip-burn caused by localized calcium (Ca²⁺) starvation in rapidly expanding apical meristems under low canopy airflow. Precise control of boundary layer thickness (rb) combined with elevated substrate Ca:K ratios (1:1.2) is essential to maximize essential oil yield (eugenol and linalool) without leaf necrosis.
